The Nights before Christmas

The days before Christmas were filled with all things family and festive as we all geared up for the big day.  Last year's Christmas was so stressful with being pregnant, both Gabriel and I were sick, neither of us were sleeping and baby was due any day.  I have to say I was one Christmas cookie away from a Yuletide meltdown.  So I was determined to make things less stressful this year in anyway that I could.  So we spent a lot of time at home decorating the tree and house, watching Christmas movies, trying to get lots of sleep and wrapping presents while we waited for family to arrive.

The kids opened all our Christmas cards this year.  It is always fun to watch the open presents and cards because they are so appreciative.  Gabriel says, "WOW!! This is....  that!"  And proceeds to turn it every which way to examine it, whatever it is.  It's very cute.  He is so thankful for each card.  Then we pinned them up on our art wall in the playroom for them to enjoy.  These were cards from you, Grammie!  They loved them and thank you very, very much!

We called family a lot.  "Hi!  And a mama, and maggie, and dog, and.... bye!" Repeat x100 adding a new item in the room to the conversation--bike, airplane, dinosaur....

This is our art wall this year, filled with all sorts of art from home, school, cards.  It really makes the playroom cheerful.

Finally some family arrived, including Aunt Angie who scooped them up and started banging out Christmas carols on the piano much to our delight.  And several games of "Blanket wee!!!!!" (As seen below).

And of course, ChouChou and Fizey arrived--the traveling duo who sing Gabriel to sleep each night.  With all the family around, Gabriel camped out in our room in the teepee.  Which was sort of cute although didn't necessarily result in a ton of extra sleep for any of us but we are sort of getting used to it.

Many sweet family memories this year with the two little ones as we got ready for Christmas.  Maybe a few too many Christmas movies that got Gabriel so excited for Christmas that he broke out in a full body hives over all the excitement, but I remember being the same way, bouncing on my sister's bed at 4:00am to wake her up so we could open our stockings together, then eating all of our Christmas chocolate in one go before 6am....  So it wasn't any surprise when we found Gabriel in our bed at 4:30 ready to go!

More pictures from Christmas day coming shortly!
