Boo!

Halloween with a toddler is crazy!  (Note the picture above).  Sweaty hot costumes you practically have to bribe them into, chocolate and sugar that they probably shouldn't have, hype and excitement over a strange creepy holiday that they wouldn't otherwise know about.  Oh, but it's fun!  Ps.  I went as Audrey Hepburn (hence the crazy thick eyebrows and heavy make-up).

We talked up Halloween a little tiny bit in this house, but not too much.  He had Gabriel practicing his bear growl all week leading up to Halloween.  But on the day of, could I get him in costume?!   It took us all morning to get out the door to the indoor play center that was hosting Halloween, but we made it!

And we were glad we did.  They had a racetrack, instruments, books and all sorts of rooms full of kid delight.  And healthy food too, to my relief.  We met our other little friends there, including Tatiana, dressed up as a strawberry.  We hung out for quite awhile and I was impressed.  This is the perfect place for toddlers on a rainy/snowy day.  Gabriel ran and drove those little scooter cars around all morning, getting all sweaty and he even got his first taste of pure chocolate, oh boy!

And of course that evening, we actually took him trick or treating, more as an excuse to meet our neighbors, who we still haven't really met!   It took Gabriel one go to understand how the whole thing worked--toddle up to someone's door, ring the bell, look shyly adorable, wave hello, grab a handful of candy to stuff into your bucket, say thank you in a cute-little-barely-decipherable "dank doo" and wave good-bye.  And get daddy to carry the loot.  We decided to only let Gabriel have one piece of chocolate.  Period.  Call us mean, but he's not even two!  He clung onto that one piece the entire walk (all five houses) and devoured it with delight in the end.  Oh, how he likes chocolate!

But isn't this age the best for stuff like this?  I mean, a small piece of chocolate is pure delight.  Look at that smile.  He knows what's coming!

Happy Halloween!!
