The Land of the Midnight Sun

Whitehorse, Yukon.   The 60th parallel.  Population: 25,000.  I never thought I would find myself here!  For those of you who don't know--I'm a sunshine girl and a warm weather girl.  And when people generally think about "The North" they think of extreme cold and darkness.  And for the most part, I think that's likely what you get.  But not in the summers here!

This week we flew up to Whitehorse, Yukon for a wedding (pictures to follow shortly!) and were met with the never-ending sunshine (literally) and 25 to 30 degrees Celsius temperatures.  The sun sets here, at least during the summer solstice, around 11:30 pm and rises again at 4:30 am (and even later the further north you drive!) And it never really gets dark, just dusky.  It's such an unusual thing to experience such elongated daylight hours.

Fortunately, our hotel had dark out curtains so our little man can keep his usual nighttime hours.  It's been an adjustment for us, but what glorious weather!  And lucky for us, Whitehorse, had a little water park that we've been enjoying to help Gabriel keep cool.

Looks like we finally found summer.  In the Yukon, of all places!!
